This is far and away one of the best Syrahs I have ever had from CA. Forget all those–I won’t mention any names–Syrahs trotted out as “the most Chateauneuf-du-Pape style you have ever had” and “we are partners with Chateau Beaurygardpoof and this is the most Rhone you can get in the new world” crap. THIS is good Syrah. OMG the nose. That burnt rubber earthiness impossible to find in CA. The ripeness! perfectly balanced with it’s slight 13.5. The acid! The finish! No glass-staining colour. Clear garnet with clear edges. No overt ripe berry. Perfect acidity and earthiness (the stuff Paso-wonks call “rife with VA and brett”). An absolutely impeccable wine start-to-finish. New props to Lindquist.
