Had been really wanting to try some TAZ for a while but the price-point just made it really difficult to justify a straight-out experiment. Deep garnet, clear edges. A bit tight at first, then blossomed wonderfully. Dark, dense fruit–not too ripe. All of those amazing little burnt-rubber, herbaceous nuances which make SY wonderful if grown in the right place, picked at the right time and processed properly. I have to look up Goat Rock or ask some SMV friends, because I am uncertain exactly where or at what elevation it is. Wonder if it is on the North side up there above Cambria and Kenneth Volk (the old Byron tasting shed). Just doesn’t taste like SY from the South side of the river and valley (Lucas & Luellen, etc). No, I can’t spell Luellen. Lewellen? This wine had just a touch of age on it. Just perfect all night. LOVED it. That was yesterday. Little under half-bottle Vac-u-Vin’d overnight and tonight: Just absolutely completely totally FELL APART. Completely oxidized. No interest what-so-ever. Just GONE. Turned out to be a lot more fragile than it appeared. 14-8 <there's the problem. Solid ♦♦ wine last night. 24 hours later: ◊ I really was going to buy some more of this. Magenta will testify I said "OMG I have to have more of this!" several times last night. But sorry. Can't do it. Just too fragile.
