Have loved this label over the years and tasted these two at lunch today. This guy makes serious Pinot. Well, SLH pinot is already serious enough, and these two show some of the best typicity out there. Just a couple of quick notes.
The 2006 is light clear garnet and while heady barnyard and tarry structure were evident even on the nose, fruit a tad lacking and confirmed in the mouth. Still, full and rewarding–just a bit awkward against the EXPLOSIVE woody tannins mid-and-on ♦. 2010 showed greater integration, staining and ruby with nothing overpowering the delicately-nuanced powerhouse fruit and far more balanced SLH structure ♦♦. The 2009 Tondre Reserve was one of my favorite PN’s tasted in 2014 ♦♦♦. Find some.
