Medium ruby with bright pink edges. Steely nose heavy on leather and curried horse with pretty wet floral subtitles. This is my favorite of the Manton Valley AVA group of a dozen or so labels. Consistent, varietally-correct wines with great balance and price-point. In the mouth, bright, young Petite Sirah fruit introduce all that lovely tannin you KNOW is coming. The fruit on this wine is so delicate–and yet so present–it could easily be mistaken for ‘thin’ but it is solidly there. Incredibly dry, chewy finish with a afterthought of PMBS. This is a wine which excites you. It does not follow the over-extracted/miserably manipulated trends in wine these days. It is young and lively, pure and charming–and wins where it isn’t trying. 13-2 ♦♦
