Bright staining garnet with purple edges. The most effusive nose of a red I have seen in some time. Raw aged beef and an immense briar, green and sappy. Incredible–but not overpowering–oak, weed-eater brush and crushed cocoa nibs. A nearly unintelligible blend of spices and earth. This is not your average Morgon. The last Cab Francs I tasted with this sort of intensity were Sierra Foothills versions–Madrona and Lava Cap–and that was a long time ago. Someone mentioned I should try to find some CF when I wrote up their Pinot Noir last week. In the mouth, clean and focused: an over-washing of expectant briar laced with brilliant acidity and dark, ripe fruit. There is no hesitant awkwardness of young age not cloyingness of early fruit. The entire package is balanced and seamless, with lovely CF pepper morphing perfectly into bright tannins. 14-0 I can not say enough nice things about this bottle. ♦♦♦
