Dark ruby with bright purple edges. Somewhat vegetal–green beans, olives, and tamales–over the candied cherry fruit, miserably dark and mineralific while still noticeably bright and acidic. Like jalapeno tapenade. Some alcohol visible. This is Tensley’s little sub-20$ syrah. I found it for 14$ at one of the most expensive wine-shops in the area: Los Olivos Grocery and then a week later saw it again–I forget where–for a tad more. It is a bright, ripe fruit-bomb desperately skulking about as a Euro. Old world funk and grace dances all over the just-shy-of-cloying fruit while sharp acidity and a thinning middle balance things out. It is gamy and steely at the same time. Floral icing over cough-syrup cake served on oak and mellow petrol-y tannins fade everything away gracefully. 14-5 I really like this bottle, and the value is astonishing. A bit generous, but ♦♦♦
