Dark, dense–but not particularly staining–ruby with violet edges. Big funk and briar, a nod to plain cooked pasta and a heady little gravel note lurking. But it’s *clean* funk. A dark cherry note wrapped in subtle oak and again that doughy essence.
This is a serious cold-weather, well-extracted, heavily-nuanced little bottle hitting a bunch of Syrah notes perfectly and there isn’t a TOUCH of alcohol in it. In the mouth, an understandable bright pie-fruit sort of acidity and Red Vines, a great wrapping of tar and spice, tapering off into ample tannin. What an incredible little bottle. TWELVE POINT FUCKING FIVE.
Rich and layered, crisp and tart, and still with a concentration and elegance of fruit NO ONE could argue with. Absolutely NOTHING about this wine is shallow or fruit-FWD. Absolutely nothing about this wine is garish or austere. Extracted, brash, and beautiful.
