Perfectly brilliant medium ruby out to a thin garnet rim. Thin and wanting in the nose, textbook oak and slight briar headed off into tar-and-smoke land with flat, dead-ripe fruit and a bright cassis. Allegedly a second label of some mystery hi-rated Sonoma Cab house, but casual internet searches turn up Jackson Family which–with practically every label already HAVING a cheap label–narrows down the need to invent an off-label. In the mouth, more thinness, watery and vapid with very little going on other than unsophisticated dark cherry fruit and a slight stemmy bitterness. Finish of medium astringent tannin. $25 Sonoma cab is easily my second-favorite subject after $25 Napa cab, but this thing has all the markings of a big, tank wine under the watchful eye of a computer. 2012 Liberated Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County 13-5 ♦
