Panthea At The Disco!

Light ruby out to wide amber edges.  Round cedar-sherry rich funk with generous helpings of oak and vanilla; cardamon and coriander.  Dense with raw root-vegetables, cooked pasta, and a lovely sweet red bell-pepper note.  A last-moment volatility underlying the cassis.  While I have always been a huge fan of Anderson Valley–and especially their pinots–this was a new label to me.  I met the kid at WOPN15 and really fell in love with his wines.  Huge and ripe in the mouth, shockingly concentrated and rich far beyond its color density: like a classic PN should be.  This thing is honestly a tad fat.  If you like them big and rich, this is your baby.  I would never drink another Belle Glos, Seas Smoke, EnRoute or Cherry Pie again in my life if I had a steady stream of this.  A bright acidity and near-astringency backs up the middle before trailing off into very manageable tannins.  Bright but brooding on the tongue forever and the memory of it is nearly impossible to shake.  This is a big Pinot, but it carries with it enough thin elegance and sophistication to argue for concentration.  2010 Panthea Pinot Noir Londer Anderson Valley  14-2  ♦♦
