Deep ruby, solid edges, not staining. Big ripe nose, plummy and sweet, but decidedly vegetal and black rubber. Warm cooked pasta and ocean air. Quite ‘unheated’ for Paso and a definite wet gravel road swells mercilessly inside and increases with late air.
In the mouth, still and fat, more sweetness accentuates the dense fruit headed pruney but beautifully Zinfandel through-and-through. Wilted floral and intense spice compliment the rich tannin, not bitter at all, concentrated, distilled, not chalky or chewy–MASSIVE tannin finish rounded with still-ripe fruit. The sweetness abounding throughout and the surprising lack of heat make this a Zinfandel to remember. NOT a lean-and-mean St Helena or DCV Zin, but balanced throughout.
