Bright fluorescent purple with thin pink edges and a bit of sediment. Obfuscating spice, gunpowder and green forest, heady and alcoholic, heady with pepper, dense and heavily fruited. Although I rarely include ‘California’ wines in this blog, this is an easy exception–a little bargain GSM+Carignan win-win-win+win. In the mouth, full and round with more spiciness and beautiful fruit than even the nose elicits. Bitter and prettily chewy alongside voluminous black fruit with an opaque finish of mountain drizzle on fern and redwood bark. Sourced from a variety of unique vineyards from Santa Cruz Mountains to Monterey County, and well-distributed for such a small winery.
