LULZ

10 YO Crianza??? Can’t be good, right? And yes, I know it’s not ten. And ridiculously inexpensive. We’re talkin under 20 bucks. Found it laying around and had to give it a shot. Deep garnet in the pour, bricking heavily and not much nose. Some minty eucalyptus jumps out, layered on roasted meat and tired, poached fruit.

Grippy in mouthfeel, copious tannin etch all surfaces from the entry on. Black and dense on the palate, dry and grating with light, colorful berry charming still but fast becoming a side-show to structure. The whole package feels very *old vine* in its hesitance to reveal. Not an exemplary wine, though enjoyable through-and-through. Layers of musty fruit provide plenty of spark to invigorate the tongue and intellect. Glad I only have one from 2014, but a 17 might pop up here soon–probably about as far as you want to go with aging. The euc pops up again in the finish and it provides an interesting juxtaposition to the fade. Maybe some provenance-damage going on here, but pretty in a calm, old-world, blustery way.
