Digging into another kinda un-sung Paso variety, and from a tiny winery downtown, where one woman makes everything in a likewise tiny little space. Tasted through these recently and came away with a Tempranillo with 7 years under its belt. Clear ruby with a slightly amber rim, rich berry exploding on all fronts in the nose and a wiry funk piling in underneath suggesting things to come.
Pitch-perfect on attack, the thin vibrancy underscored by a shock of acid and still-abrasive tannins early-on. The coloring of the berry is dark in flavor: ripeness surely is apparent, but muddled with heated vegetal into sharpness and complexity. A rather European wine, though nods to Paso are inarguable.
