Merlot-fest here tonight: starting with a Deux Punx which really needed to be dranken young. Sharp and acerbic here at 4, it hasn’t held up or aged in a way I would appreciate Merlot to do. It has a great nose of vegetal and herb, and slightly chilled it finds its way into being enjoyable, but there’s a one-dimensional unit to it I am unable to fully endorse at this age. So… I went searching for another Merlot.
2017 was an odd year for BDX, and pulling this out created more displeasure in the glass. Turns out it’s 60/40 Cab-franc it presents an ENTIRELY one-dimensional presentation of odd nuances never glowing to assumed potential and remains a dull, non-descript wine with very little to crow about.
The Roc I have not visited for almost a year–and the last couple times met me with extravagance. Not happening here today. Tertiary is muddled down into lavish, honeyed arenas of glow: it’s all nutty splendor and glaring vagueness of deep fruit and leather. Ripe, but to an extent chubby and flabbily-extorted, this doesn’t show like the past few.
