Pinot WHO

An odd wine. Blind, I might have said carignane or something… I’m not sure. Pinot doesn’t really enter the imagination on several levels. A clammy, disgruntled nose: not beautiful or charming or even Burg-like or rustic. Bland and cheap-smelling, with grassy bitterness woven down deep. In the mouth, an equally bland nothingness grasps at vague lack of fruit and intense bitter tannin. I LIKE tannic pinots, but this goes a direction hard to pinpoint as “pinot”. It feels like bad, cheap BDX but with a glossy warmth hinting at other varieties. I love Carneros–and Carneros pinot, but here we have something difficult to categorize. The rich deep ruby doesn’t help. I would love to say this is a tannic little thing destined for age, but there’s just no there there.
