The most astonishing part of this wine is the absolute lack of tertiary. There’s just nothing about this wine that screams 10 years old. Nothing. A roiled greasy nose of dank Pinot influence, muddled down and glorious of bitter, briary black cherry and hedge trimmings; a mouthfeel sharp and acidic though dull with hammered-out delinquency of pure berry. Glossy while moderately elegant, the shards of middle constitute everything toward a toasted, tannic finish. It’s not the most fabulous decade old Pinot I’ve had, but at the same time it’s so lively and fresh one wonders how far it can go. Another 10? Probably 15? The smooth wonder of this bottle make strong arguments for near-ageless potential, though fading fruit in the face of growing astringency is a strong argument. Beautiful stuff–crafted for the long run is all I can say. It evokes ABC relavance in a situation I have *unpopular opinioned* many times: The best Presquiles are not made by Presquile.
