Deep garnet with edges showing typically. Really closed in. LOTS of air gave it a fairly rich, vibrant roasted spice but dulled berry and fatty chocolate–more like coconut. In the mouth, shockingly shallow all the way through–despite the vineyard pedigree and anticipation. Ripe and rich, but meager and tight in both regards–never showing what I kept expecting to be its potential. A lovely drop: supple and not-overly-oaked, with an accompanying bright acidity and tannin showing the graceful onset of age. Still, it could have used a shot of fruit. ♦♦
