Completely impenetrable ruby right out to minuscule clear edges.  Staining.  Lovely gym-sock initial funk turns to grapefruit-zest and full cold dense fruit–miserably dense, cold and hard–tempered with a touch of road-tar and salted caramel or licorice.  A raw beef high-point introduces the petrichor.  In the mouth, a full dose of blackberry reduction announces the gripping tannin.  This wine is an absolute INFANT and has another decade on it.  My stash of them probably won’t last that long, but we can dream…  Mendo SY just rewards and rewards.  2006 Mariah Syrah Mendocino  14-5   ♦♦
