Bright beautiful funk, Sangio churnin straight-up weeds and dried cranberry, with cheap plummy ripeness and coerced concentration lingering. Clean and light and quite americanized on the tongue, base bitterness starts early in the middle, finding a little more funk and sweet fruit to take with it into the finish. Tannin biting back through the wateriness of the whole thing.
This is part of my on-going assignment on @eatdrinkca & soifeats.com of dining at all our local nice Italian restaurants BUT: ordering the lowliest pasta dishes on the menu and the cheapest Italian bottle that ISN’T Chianti. If there’s a tie, I defer to age. I’m having so much fun with this, and finding some great little dingers I would otherwise look WAAAAAY past on a good Italian list. This thing is 5 years old and $31, so maybe a 15$ wine on a shelf?
Beautiful Sangiovese–and perfect with pomodoro and marinara!
