You’d be hard pressed to find a nicer Santa Barbara Cabernet for the money, and with Happy Canyon prices soaring, it becomes even more of a bargain. Less than $30, made by Bruce McGuire of course, and PACKED with good stuff. Bold but restrained, the fruit shines above the oak, the nose a captivating elixir of spice, cola, and dark berry. Still pink-clear at the rim–even at 6–plenty of dank briar and gentle earthy notes ring from it. A certain old-worldy creamy petrichor ties in with leather luggage and distinct bell pepper. The mouthfeel drives AT the tannin, each working together far into the finish. Considerable heat on this one, its only flaw. If its older brothers & sisters in my cellar are any indication, it has a decade to go, EASY.
