Still in Italy… enjoying some brilliant inexpensive Nero d’Avola tonight. Ruddy ruby in the glass, a bright-berry nose evoking sugared plums and Red Vines. A slight chill and copious air shows a wine deep and brooding, while still cheery in bouquet.
More fruit-driven goodness in the mouth, but punctuated with gobs of grainy structure and raspy briar and chalk. Clean and dry, focused on all levels of enjoyment without forgetting the geeky twists. Delicious beyond belief, it simply exists as a fabulous wine: complex and appealing on all levels.
