I tasted this wine for the first time last year at Hospice Du Rhone … I literally had had all the other Beaucastels but somehow had never had this *baby beaucastel* Coudoulet. Across the street and around the corner and all young vines, everything else is identical and 40/20/30/10 GR/MV/SY/CT? (that’s from memory, so….) I fell in love immediately and this is the second time I have had it since. BRILLIANT!
This 2014 is a bit subdued with hot pepper climbing into bed rapidly with the peachy fruit. Barely even a first kiss–kinda like your senior year. Clean and direct–no old world here–no brett, funk only a bit of barnyard nose, just olive beauty in a package so understatedly fruity and restrained, thriving on acid and mineral. It went ridiculously with my prime rib and it’s THIRTY FUCKING DOLLARS I mean it’s literally CHEAPER than the brain cells you killed trying to watch Wine Country movie tonight.
