Clear light ruby–just a hint of Grenache garnet in the non-staining glass. Heady light cherry in the nose, beautiful and clean, a high note of acidity mingles with dirty asphalt and cellar floor to give a funky pee-stain clarity to the balance and crystal-clear forth-right-ness of the light barnyard story this bottle has to tell. Curry-comb and straw, all the stall-mates are here, plumping and concentrating everything you want in a CdP.
In the mouth, more clean-ness and delicateness amassed against earthy subtlety, a perfect storm of Grenache brilliance working hard with the gritty Syrah and Mourvedre elements to work the tongue toward spicy perfection. Fruit a bit shy, acid and tannin somewhat out-of-balance with the round feel, this is a baby-baby example of something quite fun to drink right now–if you don’t look too hard–but definitely needing a few more years to settle down. Rash and riddled with brashness, the tannins are a forever memory over-shadowing the deep peanut-butter fruit trying desperately to keep pace.
Oh how gorgeous this wine is. Year after year, Lazaret manages to put the perfect meal on the table and leave you wanting more. Put this in your cellar, and for the price, you will thank me in a decade.
