A whirlwind 2 weeks in Italy brings me home at last and not quite ready to jump off into CA wine quite yet. Grabbed this lil dinger that brings a respectable amount of old-world cellar funk to the table, combined with a significant portion of candied dark cherry liqueur in the nose. That’s about it.
Thin and light and not insulting, but definitely has a crowd-pleasing streak of ripe fruit borderlining on flabby on the palate. There’s a grimy-ness to it not quite briar, not quite mineral, not quite acid, just a pleasing–if uneventful–package top-to-bottom, lush and round, but with a nice tannic bite. A solid inexpensive Chianti you really CAN’T go wrong with.
