Picked up this lil charmer at a local Italian resty for 24$ so do the math on that… It was this or Chianti and I will ALWAYS choose cheap sangio IGT over cheap Chianti ANY day. Big fleshy nose, supremely ripe with a bit of bitter crust in the background. Pepsi and cherry pie and burnt rubber and maple sugar candy. Clean-smelling, but there’s an old-worldy anguish to it that really seals the deal for me. At the same time the fruit is SOOOO fresh.
In the mouth, more fleshiness in the uptake, immediately being suppressed by acid darts pressing in on all sides. Easy-going and juicy, its gorgeous ripeness and considerable tobacco complexity stops me just short of calling it “imminently quaffable”.
