These are fun little wines. I’ve had a couple different varieties he makes over the years and they’re nice solid inexpensive wines that I see being sold a variety of places so obviously marketed pretty well–even Vons and Albertsons has them.
The Petite Sirah is soft yummy plump version and the Syrah is a pretty classic Paso Robles style that shockingly would fit in well with some of the far more blingier allocated versions costing three times as much. Well-fruited, extremely ripe, a spike of acid, well-made wines cloaking the heat nicely and a good bit of tannin on this one all hidden behind an appropriately briary nose.
This is the winemaker at Robert Hall and I think he also makes wine in Texas. Met him a couple times, nice guy–salt of the earth–and when you see the price on these, you’ll be an instant fan.
