The kind of gorgeous transparent garnet that tells you you’re in for an interesting grape and something beautifully un-fucked-with. Steely bold in aroma, the fruit a low-lying nectar, the structure nasal-clearing. Rosy berry, cedar, licorice, and hog-wallow bright and complex, tertiary definitely playing a role in settling it down and pulling everything together.
Love the way this guy plays with grapes. Funkily European in the mouth with a density of middle screaming California. Fruit runs a perfect concentrated blackberry and cherry liqueur, thinly spread out all over the tongue with churning acidity gripping the sides for dear life. A little age warms the soul all the way down, rounding things off and giving a leathery feel to the tannin. Light and refreshing–not taking itself too seriously–but deep inside there lurks a monster. Such is the game with Aglianico.
