BLENDADA

One of my favorite things to do at a resty is to order one of the most expensive bottles on the list and one of the cheapest. I used to be shy about this, but now I do it with confidence and aplomb. It’s like… you go to a tasting room and they have a 30$ bottle of pinot and seven 60$ bottles of pinot and goddammit if you don’t like the 30 dollar one better. No shame in that. And here… the 09 yGay just fucking KILLED it, but when the tapas came out, what do you want but a funky dinner wine full of character. I love Norton bec, and this little dinger blend pushed all the right buttons with the food.

Funky and alive, green woodsy nose dappled in black cherry and barnyard, a mouthfeel rife with acidity, tobacco and dark chocolate, all your tannic fantasies come to light in a package cheap and easy but still with decades to go. Most everything interesting in any of the components has been blended away, leaving a crowd-pleasing wine with a solid core. Here is inexpensive BDX blend perfection from Mendoza.
