Lettuce Prey

NV, but purchased 1994 so…. do the math. Sacramental wine from BV as most of you know–what kept them alive during prohibition. Glorious nectar, with great tawny vegetal notes, dusty and brilliant. Exemplary? Slightly. Cloying? Perhaps. But gorgeous and NO ONE is gonna dis this wine. So much patina, absolute velvet and nutty splendor. HISTORY IN A BOTTLE. Do they even still make this???

A quick visit to add the link says: Yes, they still make and sell this wine–under the Maestro division–with current release at $35/375. I was guessing it was ‘California’ because they grow a LOT of Muscat in the San Joaquin Valley, but apparently “most of the fruit” comes from Ranch 12 in Calistoga with the remainder coming from the Central Coast. It’s also 100% SS and solera. Interesting.
