Well, this is pretty. Subdued meaty nuances roiled in barnyard and compost, a pitch-perfect Pinot expression going into 8 years. Beautiful clear garnet in the glass, a nose pulling match-head and mineral into calm, placid waters. Muddy and effervescent, the berry reduced into earthy regions many versions of this variety only dream of.
Thin and light on the palate, but buried in complicated cherry and plum beyond description. There’s a ripe citrus theme manifesting which never over-powers but lends classic virility. Distinct tannin still glows in the finish, but NOTHING can retract the magnificent fruit in this wine. All the building-blocks are there, and while the SLH, SRH, and RRV proponents of flabby ripeness will recoil: this bottle exudes the kind of delirium true fans of Pinot relish. Made from some of the most perfect places on earth.
