The Tide Is High

This is not a terrible pinot. Simple, perhaps, lacking delirious substance, probably, but inexpensive and not flawed. Purchased for the Fr. Ross/Seaview of course, and while it’s not RAEN, it checks in firmly around Failla and others. A toasty ripe nose, not smoky and not burnt, but edging both of those descriptors as it goes by onto the palate. There, light fruity beauty takes hold, coupled with sharp acid one would expect from this AVA. Garnet-transparent correctness further pushes appreciation. A tannic curl comes late-finsh and more puckering acerola grip. Quite a package for the money and a good half-decade of potential if you don’t quaff them. Oh how I love Sonoma Coast. The other day I was explaining a diferent wine and said Sonoma Coast and they were, like, “Oh, Sonoma” and I was like, NO. SONOMA COAST. Huge difference!
