Sang Sang Blues

You know in Chef movie when the food critic says, “I would rather eat your shorts after a long jog in the park than have your molten lava cake again”? Yeah well that’s pretty much this wine, at least the nose in the first hour and a half through decanting heavily. After that everything blistering in the attack middle and finish comes through in the nose, a grating ridiculously acerbic chalk acid gunpowder black pomegranate pith. I mean, there’s a lot of versions of Sangiovese in the world, and I love about half of them and somehow Nebbiolo gets crowned the king of Italian wine or the queen or whatever pronouns you use. But I find very troubling how anyone could argue with Sangio made this way. It will probably outlive your kids, there’s just that much fruit and concentrated structure packed in behind everything that would otherwise feel unbalanced. Everything in this wine you might feel contributes to its undoing will probably be things which preserve it forever.
