Compostelle?!? Dark unfiltered ruby slightly bricking edges massive barnyard compost, squished-bug, stemmy nose but the baby-diapers blows off fairly quickly. The road-tar and burnt leather which is left continues seamlessly into the entry and only when it starts to fade in the middle does the huge, supple ripe fruit wash over but quickly fade in to thinnish acid and light tannin. Really quite un-enjoyable, even if you factor the France-Sud weirdness which envelopes large swaths of stuff from Cotes du Provence to Pyrenees but somehow escaping Bandol. Don’t get me wrong–I love these wines, but they are best when they don’t take themselves very seriously and this one I think was trying for CdP or St. Joseph and just kinda failed.
